You’ll be the steady presence in a kid’s life when things are hardest. That could mean helping a teenager talk through a rough day instead of shutting down, sitting with a child through a panic attack until it passes, or just being the adult who shows up on time, every time, when so many others haven’t.

None of that happens because you’re naturally calm under pressure, although it helps. It happens because you’re trained for it, and because you have people behind you: foster parents you work alongside, a clinical team you can call, and a structure that doesn’t leave you guessing in a crisis.

Location Hamilton, Grimsby, Stoney Creek

Pay $24 to $25 per hour

Hours 20 to 40 hours per week

Schedule Monday to Friday, with on-call and some weekends

Provide day to day care and supervision that keeps kids safe and steady
Build the kind of trust that helps a young person develop coping skills, not just follow rules
Work alongside foster parents and the clinical team on each child’s care plan
Run life skills and recreational activities that give kids something to look forward to
Step in during a crisis with de-escalation training, not guesswork
Support school and personal goals as a consistent adult in a young person’s life

A diploma or certificate in Child and Youth Work, or equivalent, OR direct experience working with at-risk youth or children in care
Comfort managing difficult behaviour with patience, not frustration
Ability to commute to Hamilton, Grimsby, or Stoney Creek
First Aid certification is a plus, not required
Willingness to complete a child welfare background check and a vulnerable sector police check, both required by Ontario Ministry regulations

You’ll go through PRIDE training, trauma-informed care training, First Aid and CPR, and cultural competency training, including Caring for Black Children and Indigenous cultural competency, before taking on your first placement.
